Introductory info about your JVC D-ILA TV…

What is D-ILA? Is it just a fancy way of saying I have a “DLP” TV? Why did JVC choose D-ILA?
LCOS is the technology, D-ILA is JVC’s version of it. Essentially LCOS is a different approach to standard LCDs were accustomed to in our computer monitors, car navigation systems, cell phones, etc. Instead of the transmissive approach to delivering light, D-ILA and LCOS use a reflective approach powered by Ultra-High Performance (UHP) Lamps.
The current QXGA chip (or brain) handles 2048 x 1536 pixels. This translates to many pixels per “image dot” which in returns helps deliver vibrate, clear, and ultra smooth images. If there is enough interest, I can show a side my side comparison between competitive D-ILA and DLP sets.
But for now, a quick comparision:

| Disadvantages | - Relatively new technology
- A bit more expensive than DLP - Projection TVs are bulky in general |
The disadvantages point to the unknown future marketplace. D-ILA are relatively expensive, relatively new technology, and relatively bulky when compared to LCD, Plasma…but these technologies all have their own issues too!
Except for apparently getting one of JVC’s defective bulbs which I have since replaced I love this D-ILA technology. The colors & contrast are great on this set! I would love to see a side my side comparison between competitive D-ILA and DLP sets that you offered to show.
