Flickering and very bright screen Samsung DLP HL-R5678W

Mar 05, 2008 in Member Questions, Sony

I have a Samsung DLP HL-R5678W,  when i turn on the TV the screen flickers (white flashes) and after about a minute the screen gragually turns very very bright (almost white) from the bottom of the screen to the top. I spoke to a tech, he said that it was the DMD board, which is very expensive $900-$1000.

Can anyone confirm this diagnosis or can I fix this with a simple lamp replacement?

Help, distorted picture Samsung HLR6768W

Mar 05, 2008 in Member Questions, Samsung

I have a question and I don’t see a place to log it so I’m hopeful this is the correct area.  I have a Samsung HLR6768W which we had no problems with.  We moved to a new home but I had it professionally palleted for the move because I know they are delicate.  We got it home and put it on the new tv stand, let it set for a day or two before Directv was to come up and install the HDTV DVR, they cut it on, its fine, we watch the crappy little ‘how to use your directv’ film as if its rocket science, sweet picture and everything.  About 3 hours later (mind you the tv was on during this whole time) the directv guy finally leaves, I go upstairs to get something, come back down cut it on and now I have a crazy picture, distorted heads, I mean WHOA like take up the whole screen with just the head.  When commercials come on I get widescreen type images but instead of the black bars being at the top and bottom its on the sides.  I called for service because after checking that maybe somehow we had it stuck on an unknown zoom function or something we thought we’d better have service come out.  I’ve been trying to search online to see if there has been anyone with a similar problem or any suggestions.  The closest I could find is someone indicating something slightly similar when they were moving and that it turned out to be the video card had been knocked loose and it was having problems synchronizing.  Any thoughts, luckily I’m still 16 days within warranty but still I would like to have any thoughts you may have.

Trouble shooting my Samsung HLN437W DLP

Mar 04, 2008 in Member Questions, Samsung, Samsung Lamps

Question! My picture and sound both went out at the same time on my Samsung HLN437W yesterday, plus I had the 3 blinking lights. I took out the lamp carrier and checked it out and put it back in and picture and sound came back on, but later did the same thing again. It has 16,437 hrs on the orig. bulb and before I order a new one Monday, is it just the bulb or is there more going on then the bulb. I not sure if the sound also goes out when the bulb does?

Infocus Color Wheel

Mar 04, 2008 in Sony

I realize that there is no category for this question, but does anyone know where a Color wheel for the Infocus X1 projector can be purchased.  Infocus doesn’t sell them and I also don’t have confidence in them since I have already had them replace it under warranty.  It lasted a bit over a year on both wheels.  It produces an unbearable whine.

Thanks,

RCA - HD50LPW175 - new noise

Mar 03, 2008 in Member Questions, RCA

Please help. I have an RCA 50″ Scenium that has been wonderful for the last 20 months. Beautiful picture and never any problems. After returning from a weekend away it began making a “buzzing” type noise (when on of course). I’ve looked all over the internet and called RCA to find what it might be. After reading this site and others I thought it might be the color wheel. Last night I opened the back and it was filthy. I carefully vacuumed as much dust as possible and used some canned air to dust what the vacuum could not get to - This is where it gets interesting. Now instead of a constant loud buzz, it is an intermittent loud buzz. There are no picutre or sound issues with programs. I have now begun to wonder if the buzz is coming from one of the 2 fans? Could it be as simple as cleaning the fans a bit better? Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks for any help, Greg
