LG RU-42PX11 42 inch Plasma EDTV:

Oct 24, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The LG RU-42PX11 is an enhanced definition television that uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches. As far as the performance is concerned, it does not perform badly although it is not the best in any of the categories either. However even this average, middle of the road performance has given the set a high rating. The cabinet is well designed and has been given an all silver look. The inbuilt speakers are attached inside the cabinet at the sides of the screen. A very thin black colored frame has been used to house the screen.

The LG RU-42PX11 was superb when it came to processing and did not show any jagged edges in most of the scenes. It also did not crush the whites which most of the plasmas do to various extents. However, the colors lack the vibrancy and it would be fair to call them muted or under saturated. Even though the colors are not that bad, they appear to be muted because the contrast ratio of the set falls slightly short. The set was absolutely fantastic when it came to detail levels and should give the top of the line sets a run for their money. The performance of the set out of the box is average and does not show much improvement even after calibration.

LG Electronics 42LP1D 42 inch LCD HDTV

Oct 19, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The LG 42LP1D is a high definition television that uses the LCD technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. The prices of the LCD’s like the sets from most of the other technologies are dropping very quickly. Even though the LCD had a massive lead in the market over the plasmas the latter is catching up very quickly. The brightness of the set is fantastic and is perhaps one of the brightest LCD’s seen so far. This means that the set will be a pleasure to watch even in brightly lit rooms as it does a great job at minimizing any reflections.

The set is quite good with the black levels too and produces higher than average levels for an LCD. The vertical viewing angle is quite average for an LCD although the horizontal one should have been better. The cabinet houses the internal speakers at the sides of the screen. The set is primarily silver in color with a thin black colored frame around the screen. More than anything else, the best things about the set are the brightness and the high black levels. So if you like watching the television during the day or have a brightly lit room, the LG 42LP1D is the one to go for.

LG 42PX4D 42 inch Plasma High Definition TV

Oct 19, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The LG 42PX4D is a high definition television which uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. The cabinet is well designed and has plenty of style and elegance. It is predominantly silver in color and a shiny black frame is used to house the screen. The inbuilt speakers like in most cases have been placed at the sides of the screen. The set offers plenty of input options to hookup the external devices. Although the set is not exactly cheap, it is not far off the average price either.

The best thing about the LG 42PX4D is the black level which is as low as 0.027 ft-L which is very high for a plasma. The set offers one of the highest black levels for a plasma television till date even though it falls well short of what the CRT’s are capable of generating. The performance of the set would have been one to watch out for except for the colors. Even though the colors are not bad, they certainly are not accurate. Even though the plasma technology has been credited with image burn-in issues plenty of times now, enough has been done to control the situation. You are unlikely to suffer the impact unless you increase the contrast to a really high level.

LG Electronics 42PC1DA 42 inch Plasma Television

Oct 11, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The LG 42PC1DA is a moderate size television with a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally and uses the plasma technology. The price of the set makes it pretty clear that LG have designed the set with the higher class in mind. Although the price of the set may make you take out most of your savings, the performance is one of the best ever seen. If you are interested in a moderately sized plasma television, the least I can say is that atleast take a look at this one.

The designing of the set ensures that it will get plenty of stares even when it is off. When it is on, it’s as if the set is working on a totally different level. The display is stunning and the set beats almost all the sets from any category. The brightness and contrast ratios of this set to say the very least are exceptional. So far, this review has been restricted to the quality of the LG 42PC1DA right out of the box and after just a little bit of tweaking, the quality improves even further. The set offered high level of details with rich and accurate colors for high definition, standard definition as well as DVD content.

The price may have many buyers rolling their eyes but one thing is for certain that you will be paying for the quality that you get.

LG 42LB5D 42 inch LCD TV

Oct 08, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The LG 42LB5D is a 42 inch TV set which uses the LCD technology. On paper LG seems to be getting many of the things right in terms of features although this effect does not translate into performance. They have included the HDMI 1.3 and made the set 1080p capable with a very fast response time. Yet it struggles a bit when it comes to performance which has the users feeling a bit let down.

The depth of the set is a mere 3 ½ inches, which is quite creditable and gives the plasmas a run for their money. The plasmas offer better picture quality than most LCD’s but also are a lot costlier. As said above the set has a full display resolution of 1080p i.e. 1920 by 1080 which is the highest resolution available today and so is the HDMI 1.3. The response time is extremely fast in the region of 5 ms and is one of the fastest today.

To say the least the menu system is pathetic and quite tedious. Even for the smallest of tasks the user has to go hunting through the menu systems. Most of the inputs are on the backside of the set while a few of them are located on the side for easy access. The provision of the USB input enables the user to attach external media devices to view photos or videos or listen to audio files directly from the device.

Zenith D60WLCD HD-ready rear-projection LCD television

The Zenith D60WLCD is one of the larger rear projection television sets, which use the LCD technology with a screen size of 60 inches when measured diagonally. The cabinet has been exquisitely designed and almost looks like a plasma when seen from the front side. It is predominantly silver and gray with black stripes on both sides of the screen. On the back side though it’s quite a different story. Normally a plasma is 4-5 inches in depth while this set is around 17 1/2 inches which is quite reasonable for an LCD.

The full display resolution of the set is 1280 by 720 which means that all the input signals will be displayed at 720p. the Zenith D60WLCD does take a minute or two to get warmed up and may cause a little bit of distress to the users who are not used to this. But once fully warm the set gives some of the sharpest pictures with rich and vibrant colors. It is also very high brightness and should not cause any problems if used in rooms having a lot of light. The resolution was fantastic and the color was not oversaturated which is the problem in most LCD’s although the black levels were slightly off the mark.

The set is fully equipped including a standard remote which thankfully is backlit. Overall the Zenith have packed in enough features to make the set deliver a satisfactory performance.

Zenith R56W36 HD Monitor

Oct 05, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The Zenith R56W36 is a high definition monitor and has a 56 inch screen size when measured diagonally. The monitor presents itself as a very good option especially if you are looking for a large screen size without having to take out all your savings to pay for it. The cabinet is very well designed but the bright silver finish of the cabinet makes it far too reflective and flashy. The depth of the set is quite less considering its screen size and makes it ideal if space is an important criterion.

The front side of the set has been given a clean look by keeping the front panel controls very simple. The set gives good quality picture even without calibration although the images are a bit reddish. The sets internal speakers offer excellent audio quality with 15 watts of output for every output channel. Overall the Zenith R56W36 is not the best HD monitor available today but strikes an excellent balance between size, performance and price.

The set offers plenty of input options to hookup your external devices to with some of them located in the front while most of them are at the side of the set. The remote is universal and can control up to four devices apart from the TV. The layout of the buttons is simple and all of them are illuminated which will prove to be a relief for most of the users.

Zenith P60W26P 60 inch High Definition plasma monitor

Oct 01, 2007 in Zenith and LG

The Zenith P60W26P is a high definition plasma monitor and has a 60 inch screen size when measured diagonally. It is priced at just a little more than 14 grand and even if the price has reduced considerably there is enough evidence to say that big screen plasmas are not for the common man. Apart from the price the performance of the widescreen monitor is fantastic although it can’t be said that it justifies the price. The cabinet is all silver and looks very elegant.

The full native resolution of the Zenith P60W26P is 1280 by 720 which means that all the input signals will be scaled and the picture will be displayed at 720p. The set is very quiet in terms of the fan noise (it does irritate a few people more than the others) and gives excellent picture out of the box. The set does have a few screen burn in problems in which some of the images from the previous channels are visible (even though faded) especially after changing to a channel having a darker image. This problem though will not affect daily viewing as a bright image will have to be on screen for a really long time which is quite rare.

The detail levels given by the set are extremely high with the smallest of detail being easily visible. The remote has plenty of features and is easy to use although it is not backlit which is disappointing. Two external speakers are also available and can be connected to the sides of the screen.

LG Zenith RU-52SZ61D 52” HDTV

Aug 29, 2007 in Zenith and LG

LG which is one of the leading Korean CE manufacturers has now evolved from an inexpensive products maker to a high end innovator with the take over of Zenith. LG earlier stood for “Lucky Goldstar” but has now moved on to “Life’s Good” and it certainly seems to be the case with this progressive company. Using Zenith’s R&D expertise in the development of HDTV and digital television LG now offers a very competitive range of television display. The RU-52SZ61D is one of the sets of this range.

The RU-52SZ61D is a 52” widescreen HDTV using DLP technology. The set uses the HD2+ chipset technology which offers a high definition resolution at 1280 X 720 at 720p. The aspect ratio offered by the set is 16:9 which is useful for viewing widescreen movies and videos. The set uses a high density light source in the form of a light bulb which is user replaceable and normally will you for about a couple of years after which it will have to be replaced. The cost of the bulb is around $150-$250.

The screen of the RU-52SZ61D is fitted into a beautiful, black, thin bezel cabinet which makes it look very elegant. The set offers picture in picture feature which lets you follow a couple of channels at the same time.
