anyone else having this problem?

i am sure about the lamp door because if i try to start up without it taped down it shuts off and the lamp door signal comes on, then if i push the switch up the signal goes off. i have checked and rechecked all connections and everything is in and tight, the only thing suspect is the ribbon cable, ...

now if i turn the tv on , the melody plays and the lamp lights up, for three seconds. tv shuts down with no melody, and no flashing lights, only standby is lit.

however. if i unplug the set and leave it unpluged sometimes the lamp will stay lit for around 5 minutes.

i think i've got the ribbon cable in right (metal to the back) however i'm not sure how far in its supposed to go.
i did try the old wheel and same result. in the dark you can see the screen light up ever so slightly. not sure what that means.
