A few weeks ago I started seeing vertical lines, looks like thin black lines and then a light line. The black lines are grouped together, about 8 of them then a 1" thick light line and then the black lines (repeats across the screen). I've attached a picture, hope that helps. Does anyone know what might be causing this and is this something that Samsung might repair for free. I've seen several other people claim that Samsung has repaired similar issues without cost even if the TV was out of warranty. This set is about 6 years old.
Thanks

Re: Samsung DLP HL-P6163W vertical black lines
Hi,
I am not sure if Samsung will repair it for free. But I am sure what the issue is..... On your post you mention that the lines have a mathematical arrangement, 8 dark lines and 1" of light. This is a issue with the DMD board (Digital Micro-mirror Device), this board contains the DLP chip. Please watch the following video:

After watching this, you will comprehend that those dark lines are entire column's of micro-mirrors switched to the OFF position, reflecting the light away from the screen. This is a very VERY common issue with Samsung DLP's....
I couldnt find the part # of the DLP chip nor the DMD board from Samsungparts.com:

But, our sponsors have the complete light engine system so you can slide out the old one and slide in the replacement:

I hope this information works for you..... Good Luck!!
