HLR5667WAX Green Vertical Lines/ analog or digital

Postby dlanierjr » Fri Jul 03, 2009 2:47 am

Samsung HLR5667WAX just got Green Vertical lines almost looks like checkerboard with purple squares. The Menu and picture in picture is not affected. When I change cable box to High Definition channels the picture is good.
TV is 2 1/2 yrs old. I have downloaded the service manual and checked if there is an error in the DMD board and digital board using the DDP1011 instructions -> Test pattern and DNIe -> test pattern and the patterns display on the screen fine so I am assuming they are supposed to be good? Anyone have a clue what i should buy. The digital board, DMD or Analog board.
I have read so many posts and I am getting confused. I originally thought i should get a digital board but need some proffesional guidance. You guys seem to know TV's :o I have 4 kids that are driving me crazy to fix this thing.

Thanks for any advice

dlanierjr.

As you said the DMD and digital boards seem to be OK, since this problem just happen with analog inputs the problem is most probably with the analog board, if the digital board was bad you wouldn't be able to watch anything but the menu, unless your problem was intermittent.

Hope this helps.

I turned the TV on one more time before disassembling it and wooola the picture is fine now. These lines have been there for a week and now are gone. Is a part going bad or what could have happened? I have checked it 2 or 3 times a day and now everything is fine. Strange.

Nevermind. The problems are back except now the picture is freezing in high def and the TV will turn itself off. There is a green tinted screen on the normal cable channels and the dvd not the green vertical lines with the checkerboard pattern that it was doing. The dvd player is hooked up by the rca jacks(AV IN 1). The cable box is connected to component 1 (Y, PB, PR, L and R). The on screen menu is still clear. Ninja do you still feel like the analog board is the culprit?
Thank You for your help :D

I should have the new board in the next couple of days. I will be posting back here to let everyone know if this solves the problem. Discount Merchant definitly have the best prices on the electronics. Samsung has been no help. They would not give me any technical info at all like why they did not carry the part # that was in my unit or what part# board they had that is the same. They said if I was not a certified Samsung Tech that they could not release that info to me. I told them i Purchased the TV 2 1/2 Yrs ago for $2500 and now it is broken and you are telling me you cant give me simple info like correct part #'s. I own this TV which means if I want to work on it I should be able to access the info. What a Joke. I will never buy anything Samsung again.

TV Ninja you are the man! TV works fine and the fix was easy. The part was $100 with shipping and the repair manual cost $20 to download(MUST HAVE). Thank You TV Ninja. I cannot thank you enough.

The high Def channels are thru the cable box and connected to component 1. I did make sure the box was not the culprit and connected cable to RF in and still the same problem. Thank You again.

I unplugged the TV and removed from above and put on the floor and reconnected everything. Picture is good right now. I did the dmd and digital board test pattern again and everything checks ok. However when I did the DNIe test pattern the white does not come up. It starts with black, red, blue, green pattern and then several other different patterns(Service Manual does not specify color seq on this one). When I ran the DDP1011 Test pattern it starts with white, black, red, blue, green pattern. Do not know if this is a problem or not. When the TV starts turning green again I will take several pictures and post them. Thanks again Ninja.

Hey Ninja the Digital board part# is BP41-00237B but the only one I can find is a BP41-00237A at Discount Merchant. Will this board be the one to use or do I look elsewhere for a "B" ? They advertise it to be for the HLR5667wax.

I think it should work, actually your TV could use more than two different part numbers, I.E. samsungparts has the BP94-01859F listed for your TV, but since currently are out of stock they're now using the BP96-02168A:

Hey Ninja. I got tired of waiting on DM to get the part in so I decided to try an idea someone posted about putting foil on top of the DNIe chip to put pressure on and act as a heat sink. What i ended up doing is I bought 3/4 square aluminum tubing at Lowes and cut it 1.12 inches long. I then placed it on top of the DNIe chip and slowly put the metal cover back on. The length (1.12 in.) seemed to be enough pressure down on the chip without having to force the screws back in the cover. After the cover was reassembled I put 2 screws ( 1.0 inches long) down thru the top cover (using the existing holes in the cover). I put the 2 screws up aqainst the inside edges of the square tubing so it will not shift and stay in place. Im hoping it will apply enough pressure in case the connection is loose and also dissipate the heat up into the metal cover from the chip. The square tube also allows air to the top of the chip. I reassembled the TV and it has been on for 2 hours now and no problems yet. I will post back updates if it continues to work or fails later. Thanks for your help.

Installed a new digital board and TV works great. That was the hardest part i have ever tried to find. Nobody has one in stock 99.9% of the time. I will never buy a Samsung product again. Not even an alarm clock. Thanks TV Ninja for you help. Your awesome dude.

My remote always worked when the problems were happening. Samsung definitly has a problem with the digital boards going bad on these TVs. Maybe your problem also.
