This was initially mistakenly posted in the projector forum. We have a Samsung HLS4266W about 4 years old. About 6 months ago we began to see thin horizontal black lines, about 4 of them. The issue has gotten progressively worse to the point that we now have many thicker horizontal lines that seem to change from a good picture to almost no picture, sort of like the horizontal hold on older tvs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
The lines are a common and frequent sign of the DMD board. Place an advanced search to see other people's solution and problems. Just enter as key word vertical lines.
Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
Thank you. Based on other posts it sounds like the DMD board. However, another responder wrote that Samsung changed DMD's in October 2006. The TV I have was purchased in November 2006. Should I find a p/n on the existing board to verify the correct p/n or can I assume the model # will reflect the right part to be ordered?
Again, thank you for any help.

Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
Depending on the vendor you are working with. I'd recommend taking a very clear digital photo of the front and back of the DMD and emailing it.
Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
Update - cart before the horse moment. I started to remove the back of the tv to photo the DMD board and on a whim decided to test the screen with a DVD movie.
The DVD movie plays perfectly with no lines or horizontal distortion.
Do I still need to look at the DMD? Is the signal process different via a DVD player?
Help!

Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
hmmm  very strange. Yes, the DVD uses a different signal like you put it. Tell me has anything in the environment changed? like a micro wave, bug antennas, anything out of the ordinary that may be affecting the reception on your set.
WHEN DID THIS START OCCURRING?

Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
No environmental changes that I am aware of. We have not made any modifications or added any appliances. Since we live in the middle of 80 acres I doubt there are any outside forces at work. We have another TV on the same system with a separate cable box that works fine The boxes have been swapped just to rule that out, no change.
As to a point in time when it started we're not exactly sure. It has been gradually getting worse over a period of weeks.

Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
You know? Im thinking the DMD board, truly the only thing that can produce the symptoms your tv is having.
Re: HLS4266W Horizontal lines
does your DLP has an HDMI or DVI input? connect something to it and see if you still see horizontal lines. If you don't see the lines with DVI/HDMI input, then your DMD board is good
Another test is , with no input signal, press the menu or input selector of the tv If you see the menu or input selector display good, then your DMD board is good
