Samsung SP50L7HX (UK model)

Postby sammyuk » Sun Mar 14, 2010 4:14 pm

I have had the Samsung SP50L7HX, (this is the UK model number not sure of US model number) for five years with no problems and been very pleased with it.

It has had two new bulbs first one went with a bang, secound one just died and TV showed warning light.

This week it started turning itself off and then back on again, the only way to stop it was to turn off the power. Didn't think it was the bulb as when it did come on, even if it was for a couple of minutes, it did display a perfect picture, and the bulb is only a year old.

Had an engineer out to look at it but he said it was the bulb! Was not convinced so I went into the service menu and did a "factory reset" and the TV has worked perfectly ever since! No new bulb.

As someone who is not technically minded, could this be a permanent cure, why would resetting the TV cure this type of problem? Could there be something underlying that is about to fail, would a failing bulb cause this?

Thanks for reading my first ever post on an internet forum!

Hello sammyuk.
The reason is that inside your tv is a small program called the lamp timer. It keeps track of the hours that the lamp is turn on. When it reaches a certain limit it will shut the tv for security measures. So the most common problem when you replace your lamp is that nobody knows about the timer, so when the tv starts shutting off and you recently replaced the lamp, you’ll have to do the timer as well.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

So hopefully I shouldn't have any more problems. I must admit every time I turn the TV on I expect it to start turning off again, not a very relaxing way to watch TV.

I'm also not happy that the so called "engineer" who came to look at the TV didn't know about this and just said I needed a new bulb and charged me £45 for that wrong advice. I also bought a new lamp at a cost of £150 which I didn't need!

Wish I had found this forum earlier.

Thanks again for your reply, I can now go back to enjoying my TV.
