I was recently given a Samsung HL S5087W. It was given to friend with no picture and 3 flashing led's. He took a chance and installed an aftermarket bulb. The picture returned with no flashing leds. So I bought it from him for the cost of the bulb. The tv worked great with a very clear but dim picture. After reading a bunch of info on this board I ordered a phillips bulb from discount-merchant.com. When installed, the first time it was turned on there was no picture then it turned off, flashing 3 leds. Turned it back on, it stayed on for about 5 minutes, then shut off and 3leds again. Turned it back on and it stayed on for about 6 hours before I turned it off. Then today same thing, 1st time stayed on for about a minute, 2nd time 5 min, 3rd time it hasnt turned off yet (1 hour in) My guess is the bulb is faulty and needs to warm up before it will stay on. (BTW huge difference in brightness with the phillips bulb)

Hello,

This is actually very common once the lamp has been replaced a couple of times, this is most likely a Lamp Ballast issue, I believe the part number for your TV is BP47-00037A.

This link below has a guide on replacing the ballast on Samsung TVs, it has a very nice DIY step by step, hope it helps!

Thanks for that. It does still do this from time to time. Only on start up, then it will stay on for as long as i want. So I will try a balast next

I bet by this time you have replaced the ballast, or hopefully your TV has been working without a hitch. Either way I am just following up, let us know if we can be of any help!

I have not changed anything other than the bulb. The tv turns on and will turn off 1-3 times before staying on. I am ok with that for a basically free tv, once it is on it works perfectly. I am gonna hold off on making a repair for know. If it becomes worse and is unbearable, I will make a decision at that point. I will keep you posted, Thanks again for the info.
