Samsung HLP5063wx/xaa -Sound good but black screen

Postby Omegga » Mon Nov 29, 2010 8:52 pm

I am having a problem with my 5 year old Samsung HLP5063wx/xaa. A few days ago, the TV just turned itself off. When I attempted to turn it on again, I get perfect sound but no picture. The three lights (Lamp/Timer and Standby/Temp) are flashing. Called Samsung and the tech I spoke with said that it might be the Lamp that needs changing. So I ordered a lamp from samsungparts.com. The part appeared to be the correct one. I followed all the instructions for the install, including making sure that the switch was in the proper place, but no luck.

The question i would like to know is, if I can enter the menu system to do a factory reset if I am not getting an indication that the the lamp is good?
Appreciate any help - Thanks.

Hello,
I do not think you need to run a factory reset, the failure rate of an OEM Philips lamp is less than 1%! I think it might be time to replace your ballast, this is the second most common problem with RPTVs and it is one of the consumable parts that need replacement at least once during a projection TVs life span. Weak ballasts can ignite an older more “spent” lamp since the mercury quantity might be lower, but has problems when it is replaced with a new mercury rich lamp. A sure way to diagnose this problem is an electronic “arching” sound emitted during ignition, like a buzzing, that is the sound of the ballast not being able to generate the 15kv needed to ignite the lamp.
