Checkerboard pattern on HL-R4667W

I'm having a problem with the screen image on my Samsung HL-R4667W DLP TV and I need some help isolating the bad component.

Here are some images of the patterns I'm seeing in various modes:

Note that the menus (as well as PIP) are unaffected by the problem. Also, a pattern similar (but less pronounced) to the one on the OTA digital channels affects the other inputs (HDMI, Component, AV, etc).

I downloaded the service manual and followed the trouble shooting instructions to rule out some of the possible causes. Here's what I found:

1) Accessed the service menu - Mute+1+8+2+Power
2) Ran the DDP1011 Test Patterns - all patterns looked good - manual says this means the DMD is good.
3) Ran the DNIe Test Patterns - all patterns looked good - manual says this means the Digital board is good.

The service manual doesn't present a clear procedure to determine if the Analog board or the cable between the Analog and Digital boards might be bad.

Does anyone have a fairly simple procedure I could follow to determine if the Analog board or the cable is bad? Is there another component that could be at fault and is there a test I can run? I'd rather not order a bunch of parts and do trial and error since this is expensive, may not solve the problem, and if it does, I may not know which change fixed the problem.

TexSky00, something that worked for me, unintentionally, was that I unplugged my HL-R4667W to remove the lamp. I removed the lamp to look for the mirror for cleaning...once the lamp was removed, I realized I was way over my head, reinserted the lamp and put the panel back on. Replugged the cord into the 120v outlet and decided to just watch tv, bam! the picture was fine..it also removed some issues that I was having with non-HD channels. I think it was just having it unplugged for about an hour..I don't know, but it worked.

Thanks Frank.

I had a similar experience. Twice I've unplugged the TV, opened the back panel, and fiddled with stuff. The 1st time, I just familiarized myself with the component positioning and got the part #s off the boards. The 2nd time, I did some cleaning and disconnected/reconnected some of the board-to-board cables.

In both instances, the picture immediately went back to perfect on all input/channels. However, in both cases, the picture gradually degraded again over a period of days. The problems show up first on the OTA channels with the analog and non prime digital channels (e.g. 8.2, 4.3, etc.) showing problems 1st. Next to go are the prime digital channels (e.g. 4.1, 5.1, 8.1, etc.). Eventually, the other inputs (AV, HDMI, Component) begin to degrade as well.

My last try at this was on Thursday (5/14). Within 2 days, the first signs of problems began to reappear. As of today (5/20), the Component input (from my cable box/DVR) and the HDMI input (from my DVD player) are both still working fine, but I expect them to start to show problems again within a week. Once that happens, I'll try just unplugging the set and letting it rest to see if that give me another temporary fix.

Any of you smart folks out there able to deduce a potential cause based on this behavior?

Hi TexSky00,

It seems to be an analog board issue since the inputs are showing this problem gradually (one by one). So your best option would be replace it.

Thanks NEhelp. That's what I was thinking myself. Now I just have to wait for Discount Merchant to get one in stock! :(

I'll post back here once I've replaced the board and let everyone know how it turned out.

The part # doesn't match. The part for my TV (according to SamsungParts.com) is BP94-02049E.

Did you verify that number on the board? If not I recommend you to do it, just to be sure.
