Samsung DLP picture goes black after 10-30 minutes

Dallas, TX had really bad thunderstorms with lots of lightning this morning. Our 56 Samsung DLP will start up cold and run for 30 minutes or so then the screen goes black. There is an occsional small area at the top or bottom of the screen that will light up occasionally or the screen will sort of freeze with one half of the screen black and a very pixelated black and white dotted picture on the other half of the screen this screen is always a still picture. Turning of the TV and waiting for a minute or two will sometimes allow the screen to work again for another 20-30 minutes.
I guess I should have bought that surge protector that I have been meaning to get for the past 3 years.
