replace bulb and now the picture is very dim

I have a Samsung HL-P5063W, bulb code BP96-00608A(P). The set is about 5 yrs old and we lost the bulb a few days ago. I ordered a new bulb (no housing) and installed it in the old housing. When I was taking the old bulb out, I first loosened the wrong screws, which I think have something to do with alighning the bulb in the housing. I tried to position back the way it was and re-tighten the alignment screws and proceeded to remove the bulb and replace it.
Now that I've installed the new bulb in the set, the picture does not have near the brightness that it should. I'm not sure if I messed up the alignment or if something else is wrong.
Anybody have this problem?

Well, if you can see the lamp seated properly across the front hole of the housing then I don't think your issue is with the alignment.
Have you tried to adjust the brightness on the menu?
Which is the brand of the bulb you received?

The new bulb is an OSRAM. I ordered the bulb from DLPLampsource. They claim it is an OEM bulb.
I did try to adjust the brightness but it still didn't look right. No where near as bright as the old 5 yr old bulb.

Well, usually the OSRAM bulbs are not that bad, but definitely Philips bulbs are the best in the market. It could be that you had a Philips bulb and now you have an OSRAM, this way you should notice a lower quality brightness.

There must be something else wrong. It's unwatchable. Makes my eyes hurt trying to watch it.
Could it be the ballast?

What is the wattage and gap of the new Osram bulb?
What is the wattage and gap of the old bulb?
Do they match?

The old Phillips bulb says 100W 1.0.
The new OSRAM bulb says 100-120/1.3.
Looks like the OSRAM has a 1.3 gap vs the Phillips 1.0 gap?
After removing the new bulb and looking at it there definitely seems to be something wrong with it. The glass stem that has the filament inside is no longer straight up and down. It leans to one side a little and there is what appears to be a glass "bubble" near the base. Definitely didn't notice that before I installed it.
I'm going to return it for a replacement.

My recommendation: buy a Philips bulb! and be sure you get the right one to avoid this problem.

I have a Samsung hls4266w and the lighting is very dim. I found out how to replace the light bulb in the casing on youtube but how do you get to the light bulb casing? I took off the backing but was unsure how to get to the light bulb casing. Can anyone help?
