Hello,
I think your ballast is weak and needs replacing, it takes 15kV to ignite this lamp and a weak ballast might not push through on bright pictures.

thank you for replying! i was browsing through the forums and i thought it might be the dmd board.

"DMD Board is responsible for ultimate video output - TV is scrambled (lines or blackouts) - MOST LIKELY BAD DMD Board"
do you suggest still replacing the ballast first? would the ballast have anything to do with the faint horizontal lines? like say there is a horizontal object in the background and a character is in front of it you can still make out a faint line continuing through the character.

hhmmm now that you mention the other distortions being more noticeable i thought they might be noise before shutdown but if it is running this throughout... Then a DMD board is the most probably, I would still just to trouble shoot, try every input and see if it does the same...
The plus side of trying out the ballast before the dmd is that the ballast is around 65 USD and the DMD board usually entails swapping out the entire light engine (200-300 USD) !!!

i can deal with the faint horizontal lines they are not that bad. but the blacking out on the bright white pictures is whats really annoying me. i think im going to try to replace the ballast. i think it is part number BP96-00690A. can you confirm that for me. i also found a site that has instructions on replacing it http://www.consumermeet.com/entry/samsu ... llast.html . any other tips on replacing or not electrocuting myself would be a plus thanks!

so i replaced the ballast and still getting blackout and pixelation during bright white screens sometimes it even loses signal to the cable box and then comes back. occasionally it will turn off by its self after a while. any suggestions on what to do next??

Yes it might very well be the Analog input board!

Iwantrevenge, did you ever find what was causing your problem? I have the exact same model and problem. Was just getting ready to buy a ballast board and saw your listing.
Thanks
Dale
This is my first post so if anything is goofy I apologize.

Darn!! I was hoping you found the problem. Your the only other one I have come across with the same exact model and problem. I was prepared to put in a "$400 Light Engine" but thought I would start with a Ballast first. Not sure what to do either. The typical "over the phone" diagnosis from TV repair places is the Light Engine along with just scrap the TV because it will cost too much to fix. Their not the ones with $2500 into the TV though. I just put a Color Wheel in about 1-1/2 yrs ago and my second bulb 2 weeks ago (purchased in 2004) all bought from DM. I'll think it over for awhile maybe something will surface.
Thanks for your reply.
Dale
