Dads dlp went down. new lamp installed and still nothing. Then it was dropped off on my doorstep....sigh....pulled ballist to find it melted down....I cant beleive they didnt smell it...replaced ballist and fan by lamp...looked like it was turning slowly....not...tv came back to life...ran on my bartop for 3 hours not a hitch. checked lamp life timer and found that dear old dad had put over 17000 hours on this lamp...wow! returned set to dad and in a few days he said it would shut off by itself. sigh....
Now! when turn set on lamp gets brighter...like in staged...when it gets to last stage smoke coming from, ballast. If Im correct the output of the ballast is controled by the dmd board. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

you are correct, but that smoke... you have to make sure it is not coming from the connection from the ballast to the lamp! that would mean an improper connection, did you put a new lamp in???
