thomson scenium 44"

Postby tacapall » Wed Apr 07, 2010 7:32 pm

I have a thomson scenium 44" dlp tv when I turn it on it takes a few moments to go on, I hear a noise coming from the right hand side, then the picture and sound come on, which is perfect, but it only lasts for a few seconds then the screen goes blank for another few minutes then the noise from the right hand side and the picture and sound come back on for a few seconds then off again, it just keeps repeating this. Anyone any idea what this problem is. Thanks.

Hello again tacapall.
That sound that you hear, is it a clicking noise? Or a whining, whirling kind?
When the color wheel starts to fail, it makes a whining whirling noise. Since its not spinning at the correct rpm, the tv sensors will pick up the anomaly, send a signal to the DMD board, so it shuts the tv for security reasons.
As for the clicking, it might be related to the lamp ballast (board that regulates voltage to the lamp). Another small probability is that the lamp might be in its last hours.
See if you can narrow down the problem by pinpointing the type of noise the tv makes.
Good luck.

Nightkid its a sort of whirling noise doesn't sound like grinding and theres no clicking if I had to call it something it would be like a electric circut sparking then just sounds as if a fan is starting up then picture appears which is perfect then it goes off again then repeats the process around every 5 mins.

very usefull info nightkid ;) , so that noise that you hear is most likely the ballast that is making an electricity arc and it cant regulate the voltage to keep the lamp on, hope this helps if youre going to check that by yourself check if the ballast is liking oil or if you see a burnt component, the ballast is located near the lamp if you follow up the cables that connect the lamp enclousure with the ballast that small board is the ballast, good luck :ugeek:
