I have a WD-65733 with the white-dot problem. The TV is 3 1/2 yrs. old and started developing the white & black dots about 4 months ago and has been replaced by a new TV. I have found the replacement chip (4719-001997) for around $200 and I am contemplating having a go at replacing it myself. I have some electronic background (as a hobby) so I feel confident enough to attempt it. I have searched the web and have found no guides to go by. If anyone could give me some advice, such as any focusing/alignment issues I may have, I would greatly appreciate it. If I screw it up then oh-well...I'm only out the cost of the chip.

Donnie - I can't help you out, other than bumping this to the top of the forum, but I'm interested in the answer since mine is doing the exact same thing and I'm thinking about trying the repair myself too.

Re: DIY DMD Chip Replacement
I, too, am considering replacing the DMD Chip myself. I have a four-year-old Samsung HLT-5687S LED DLP than is getting white dots galore. Local TV Repair wants $450 to replace the DMD Chip Part Number 4719-001997. I found the chip for $188 (ShopJimmy.com) but they are currently out of stock. If I find any service information on this repair, I will post it... it you find the info, please post.

There are two you tube videos that show how to replace this chip. One is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZDbUClK ... ture=share. The other is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWpggk2i ... re=related. This last youtube is in 4 parts but he shows how to start from the very beginning. It may not be your particular model but I think they are all going to be similar enough to figure out.

Re: DIY DMD chip replacement
Thanks for those links. The only one still available is this one:
It's got good instructions only problem is the first part of how to get the colour wheel section out. I'm ok with electronics -- not an expert. My wife will kill me if I wreck the TV though. She still hasn't forgotten about the overhead fan I said I could repair. I did just replace the lamp and it went ok so maybe her confidence will return. It's not complicated, I think?
I've been reading some info from this blog on DMD chips:
I looked at this article as well:
with step-by-step photos. How does this look to you? I'll have to print off all the photos to create a manual. Maybe get my wife to assist me? Ha ha ha.
Merci beaucoup

Re: DIY DMD chip replacement
The DMD chip replacement is actually really easy to do on the Mitsubishi WD-65733 or any other Mitsubishi, Toshiba, or Samsung DLP TV that takes the 4719-001997 dlp chip. I would be a bit weary about buying one from a part recycler as these DMD chips also have a lifetime on them similar to the replacement lamps.
I highly recommend buying from a Discount-Merchant or PartStore type company that sells factory direct new parts.
You may pay $20 more, but you are getting a brand new unit guaranteed. I would also steer clear of sites like eBay or Amazon; again - you dont know how much use these DLP chips have had before random people start to sell them on the marketplace as new. You really cant tell a new 4719-001997 chip from an old/used DMD chip.
The instructions to change the 4719-001997 dmd chip WD-65733 are available on the fixyourdlp blog - which for me normally takes about 20-30 minutes to complete using my dewalt electric screwdriver. If you are going manual, it may take you an hour or two since there are so many screws (all of which are easily replaced)...
There really isn't any science to it... you are opening the back of the TV, getting to the DMD board and replacing that good old shiney DLP chip. Since the DMD chip is encapsulated into your TV, the thing still looks new when you pull it out... so be careful not to mix up the old 4719-001997 dmd chip with the new one! Again, for this same reason I urge you guys to steer clear of used part recyclers as well as marketplaces filled with unknown sellers such as Amazon or eBay.
