Samsung DLP

My Samsung DLP 2003 model has had no plroblem until now.
The picture went out and started a humming sound with the lamp and temp lights on. I replaced the lamp and it worked for two days and then went out again. I purchased another lamp and replaced again but the tv never came on. It still had that humming sound with lamp and temp lights on. I called the place that I got the lamps from and they told me that it was probably a bad balest. If my balest is bad would this cause the to lamps to fail and become no good anymore?

Please help if you have any info on this problem.
