My Sammy DLP ha sa loud humming sound coming from the TV - it can be heard over the volume of the tv itself. The picture and sound seem fine and unaffected at the moment. The tv was bought around 2004 and has never had any servicing or bulb replacements yet.
Is the humming likely a bulb-related issue or is it a fan? If it's a fan - can somebody point me to a link that explains how to fix this issue - I am not the handiest of people, so if it's complicated, I'll likely need to spring for a service call.
While I'm asking - the picture is starting to take longer to come on - is this a bulb/ballast issue? How do I find out how many hours my bulb has on it.
Given the price of tv's these days, am I better off buying a new one than repairing my DLP?
I appreciate any help any of you can provide.

Fixing your DLP, will be more cost affective, Specially if you have to just replace the lamp or ballast board. They can both be replaced at home "easy fix"
If you have a chance...the guys at discount-merchant.com will offer you free technical trouble shooting and even guide you through the lamp/ballast replacement.
