3 weeks ago our tv shut off on our kids while we were at work. We turned it on and it stayed on for approximately 6 minutes and then shut down. On the display we saw 1 red blinking light followed by 7 yellow blinking lights. We tried doing a reset by holding the power and menu button down but still got the same results. Tv stayed on for 6 minutes and shut down again. A local repair shop (who doesn't work on dlps because of size and lack of parts) said their research led them to believe we needed a new color wheel. $200 later we had the part and replaced it. Once again no luck. We have also replaced the bulb. My husband also checked the fans for blockage and all seemed to be moving freely. Our tv is out of warranty but Sears is coming to diagnose it Tuesday for $99 bucks. Kinda hoping someone can help us figure it out and tell us either how to fix it or too quit beating a dead horse lol.

First what I would rcommend is making sure the bulb you purchased was a OEM. Philips or Osram would be the only lamps that we would recommend. Anything else would be a generic compatible lamp. If you do have a OEM bulb the ballast would

more likely be the problem. This is the component that power the bulb. This is a consumable part which with time it stps putting out the voltage a new lamp needs. A new lamp requires more power than a used lamp. Check to see if you hear any buzzing type sounds when TV powers on if so more likely it is the ballast although they don't always make this souns when they are needing replacement.

Here is what the repair tech told me. "Your TV is toast. Its lost communication between the main board and optical engine. Replace main board is $500. Replace optical engine is $1000." Best option is to purchase a new TV. :-) ugh so frustrating!!
