I replaced the buld on the DLP 8 months ago, the other night it just shut off. When you try to turn it on it acts like is it turning on with the green light blinking, then it will turn off. It does this about 3 times before all 3 lights start to blink (1 red 2 green). I heard it could be three things, the ballast, the lamp or the color wheel. Has anyone had this problem and figured out the issue?

Hello,
This is most likely one of the other two you have note replaced (a colorwheel or ballast) any kind of distortion or sounds coming from your tv before it went out or during the ignition process that fails???

Thanks grayfox,
I tested the old lamp that it had before and that did light up. This is the lamp that I replaced and made the tv dim, so it has to be the lamp. The weird sounds stops when I put it the old lamp so I assume the ballast made that sound because the lamp that was in there would not light up.

Re: Samsung hlt5075sx
Hello,
heres some insider news ;) I still think your ballast is bad. Reason being is that a weak ballast can power an old lamp :| but a weak ballast CANNOT power up a new mercury rich lamp... so in order to get that bright rich color and picture I would replace the ballast...
Let me know what you think! :geek:

Re: Samsung hlt5075sx
That makes total sense, that's why it would make that weird noice on the newer lamp but not the older lamp. I will order a ballast and let you know. Thanks again.
Re: Samsung hlt5075sx
one last question grayfox,
Do you know if the ballast will affect the color wheel at all? Just curious

Re: Samsung hlt5075sx
Glad I could help, you also might want to check out the ballast replacement guide on this forums homepage. go to Guides> ballast ;)
And to answer your question, No, the only function the ballast has is generating a 15kV ignition charge for the lamp and keep it on! if you notice the guide there only 2 plugs to the 7" by 3" board one coming from the power supply for energy and a sensor going to the main board. The only other outbound plug connects directly into the lamp 8-)
Hope this helps! :geek:

Re: Samsung hlt5075sx
Thanks,
I have already take the ballast off, and it seems fine but that winning sound it makes goes away when the old lamp is connected to it but it makes it with the newer lamp. It totally makes sense. Since I have the ballast out already, is there any way to test to see if it is good or not? Thanks again for all of your help
