Step 1: Put on the plastic gloves. Loosen all the screws found on the back panel.

Step 6: Remove the 3 screws holding the color wheel protective cover in it place. Avoid touching any of the optical components as this can affect the quality of your picture.

Step 7: Carefully disconnect the cable between the terminal board and lamp.

Step 11: Loosen the 2 screws holding the terminal cover in place. (Good time to dust this section).

Step 14: Unlock the old DLP Chip from the terminal. You may need to loosen the screw on the side or use a flat edged screwdriver to pop it out.

Step 15: Place the new DLP chip into place. Handle the DMD DLP CHIP only by the edges because it is very sensitive to antistatic electricity.

Step 16: Put the terminal back into its holder.

Step 17: Tighten the 10 screws holding the terminal in place.

Installing the projector lamp

Pre-installation Preparation:

      • Turn off the projector power and wait for the cool-down period which is about two minutes. Disconnect the power cord after the two minutes is over.
      • Wait at least 30 minutes to one hour for the Epson PowerLite 480 projector to cool internally before opening it up. It should be cool to the touch. This projector operates using intense heat so don’t attempt to change the lamp while the projector is hot as you run the risk of a severe burn.

    Tighten the screw on the projector lamp cover. Reset the lamp timer.

    Resetting the lamp timer

    The projector lamp timer will need to be reset after replacing the Epson ELPLP71 projector lamp. This timer helps the Epson PowerLite 480 projector to properly track the lamp life. Only reset the timer when a new Epson ELPLP71 projector lamp has been installed, otherwise the projector will NOT know when it’s time to replace the lamp. You run the risk of damaging your projector.

    • Press the MENU button on the remote control. The Lamp Reset Menu will appear.
    • Scroll down to the RESET. Press ENTER.
    • A prompt appears asking if you want to reset the lamp hours.

    • Press the MENU button or ESC to exit the menus.

    The lamp hours will be reset to zero. The lamp usage timer shows 0H until you’ve used the lamp for at least 10 hours.

    Extend projector lamp life

    Extend the life of the newly installed Epson ELPLP71 with the following tips:

    • Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
    • Turn off the Epson PowerLite 480 projector and let it stand for at least one hour ever 24 hours. An average use of four to five hours per day will ensure longer lamp life.
    • Make sure there is enough airflow around the projector particularly if it’s been permanently mounted.

When it’s time to replace the Epson EB-955W projector lamp follow this guide

When it’s time to replace the Epson EB955W projector lamp you’ll notice the power indicator is flashing blue, and the lamp indicator is flashing orange. You may also notice the picture has gone dimmer or the color is off. An on screen message will also appear; “Time to replace the lamp. ” You can expect 4900 hours of use when the projector is set to Normal and about 5900 hours when the ECO mode has been started.

Installing the lamp

The Epson EB-955W projector uses model Epson ELPLP78Before installation:

  • Turn off the Epson EB-955W projector and unplug the AC cord.
  • Allow the projector to cool for one hour – it should be cool to the touch. Inside of the projector can be very hot since these machines operator under high temperatures and you run the risk of being burned if the projector has not cooled down.
  • Do not operate the projectors while any of the lamps are removed as this may result in malfunctions, fire hazard and other accidents.

Caution: Don’t touch the screen or the actual bulb with your finger since the oil from your skin can cause a black spot on the bulb.

The Epson EB-955W lamp cover is on the side. Using a screwdriver to gently release the cover switch. Slide the lamp cover off.

Remove the two screws on either side of  Epson ELPLP78 lamp. Place the screws to either side. Grip the raised section of the old lamp and remove it.

Take the new Epson ELPLP78 projector lamp by the handle and gently put it into place making sure the lamp is facing in the right direction.

Replace the projector lamps screws and re-connect the lamp cover. Re-attach the power cord. Turn the projector on and let it warm up. You are ready to reset the lamp timer.

NOTE: The Epson ELPLP78 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamp.

Reset the Epson Epson EB-955W Lamp Replacement Counter only when the Epson ELPLP78 lamp has been replaced.

Step 11: Carefully pop the terminal out of its holder.

Step 12: Unlock the old DLP Chip from the terminal. You may need to use a flat edged screwdriver to pop it out.

Step 13: Place the new DLP chip into place. Handle the DLP CHIP only by the edges because it is very sensitive to static electricity.

Step 14: Put the terminal back into its holder.

Step 15

Step 15: Tighten the 7 screws holding the terminal in place.

Step 16

Step 16: Replace the terminal board’s cover.

Step 17: Reconnect the clip holding the cooling unit.

Step 18: Re-connect the cables between the terminal board and lamp.

Step 19

Step 19: Tighten the 2 screws holding the color wheel protective cover in it place. Avoid touching any of the optical components as this can affect the quality of your picture.

Step 20

Step 20: Carefully replace the light engine back into the cabinet.

Step 21

Step 21: Replace and tighten the 4 screws holding the lamp engine in place. Re-connect all the connectors.

Step 22

Step 22: Put the light engine back into the RPTV. Tighten both screws that keep the back bracket in place.

Step 23

Step 23: Put the back panel back onto the TV. Put the screws back into place and tighten.  Enjoy the crisp, clear picture on your Samsung HLS6187WX/XAA RPTV.
