Your D.I.Y. guide to a new BenQ PB7100 projector lamp

Follow our quick installation guide for a replacing the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 projector lamp in the BenQ PB7100 projector.

When the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp reaches end of life and it’s time to replace the lamp, the BenQ PB7100 projector’s LED indicator on the projector will light red and reminder messages about lamp replacement will begin appearing on screen.

Step 1: Buy authentic

You can except up to 2000 hours of lamp life from a newly installed BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp — BUT only it you buy authentic OEM lamps. These lamps are superior to generic “compatible” lamps currently sold at discount prices on the Internet.

At first glance generic compatible lamps seem like an incredible bargain. But when you factor in their shorter life spans and poor illumination along with other problems, these lamps actually end up costing more in the long run. These lamps are prone to explosion and have been created using toxic substances such as Krypton-85. Using a counterfeit generic lamp will also void any warranty for your BenQ PB8220 projector.

Step 2: Replace the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp

Note: These instructions are also compatible for the BenQ PB7000, BenQ PB7105, BenQ PB7205, BenQ PB7225, and BenQ PE8250 projectors.

Before installing: Disconnect the power cord and allow the projector to cool for one hour before replacing the lamp. The BenQ PB7100 projector operates under high heat and can cause burns if it’s not cooled down enough.

The BenQ PB7100 lamp lid is on the bottom of the projector. Be sure to protect the top of the projector before turning it over to access the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp.

Loosen the screw holding the BenQ PB7100 lamp cover in place.
Remove the BenQ PB7100 projector lid and place it to one side.

Remove the screw holding the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp in out of the projector. Be sure to dispose of the used BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp through a local recycling program. Don’t throw this lamp into regular garbage as it contains mercury.

Inset the new BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp all the way into the BenQ PB7100 unit.
Tighten the screws holding the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp in place.
Replace the lid on the BenQ PB7100. You’re now ready to reset the lamp timer.

NOTE: The BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamps! If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps!

Step 3: Resetting the lamp timer

In order for the BenQ PB7100 to correctly track the lamp life of your newly installed BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp, you’ll need to reset the lamp timer.

Press the Exit button on the BenQ PB7100 projector for 3 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
Press the MENU button on the projector during the lamp hour message.

An adjustment message will appear.
Press the arrows to reset lamp hours to zero. Press EXIT to leave.

Extending the life of the BenQ 60.J5016.CB1 lamp

Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
Use the Lamp Power option on the BenQ PB7100 and set to Economic Mode to reduce the amount of power used but extend lamp life.

There are several reasons that your DLP projector may not be turning on.

Before contacting your service rep or paying for a costly check-up, try these 5 troubleshooting tips.

Check your power: Is the power cord plugged in? Is the main power switch to the projector turned on? cord. Has it come loose? Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in and the main power switch is turned on if the projector—including the fan, doesn’t operate at all.
Check your connections. Is the image source connected to the projector? Are the cables between the projector and computer secure?
Check your batteries. If you usually turn on the projector through the remote control, check the batteries.
Check your temperature. Your projector has a built-in safety feature that shuts down the projector if it starts to overheat. Check that the filters are clean so air can circulate and keep the projector from overheating and shutting down. Your projector will have a status indicator that will flash if the projector is overheating.
Check your lamp. If the projector lamp has exceeded its lamp life, the projector automatically stops working. The Lamp Replace indicator on the projector will be lit up or perhaps blinking. You may also have noticed a change lamp message appearing on screen (have you been ignoring the message?). Be sure to buy only genuine projector lamps from an authorized dealer.

If none of these steps work, then consult your manual and call you local service representation for an appointment to check the computer.

Equipment needed

- Electric Philips screwdriver
- needle nose pliers or a 5mm nut driver
- antistatic gloves OR plastic gloves used with an antistatic wrist band
- soft cloth or brush

Replacing the 4719-001997 DLP Chip

Step 1

Step 1: Put on the plastic gloves. Loosen all the screws found on the back panel. Put the screws to one side and remove the back panel.

Step 2: Loosen the two screws holding the lamp bracket in place.

Step 3

Step 3: Remove the 4 screws holding the lamp engine in place. Disconnect all the connectors. Important: don’t yank any cables.

Step 4

Step 4: Carefully remove light engine from the cabinet.

Step 5

Step 5: Remove the 2 screws holding the color wheel protective cover in it place. Avoid touching any of the optical components as this can affect the quality of your picture.

Step 6

Step 6: Carefully disconnect the cables between the terminal board and lamp.

Step 7

Step 7: Disconnect the clip connecting the cooling unit.

Step 8

Step 8: Remove the cooling unit and terminal board.

Step 9

Step 9: Remove the terminal board.

Step 10

Step 10: Loosen the 7 screws holding the terminal cover in place. (Good time to dust this section).

Step 11

Step 11: Carefully pop the terminal out of its holder.

Step 12

Step 12: Unlock the old DLP Chip from the terminal. You may need to use a flat edged screwdriver to pop it out.

Step 13

Step 13: Place the new DLP chip into place. Handle the DMD DLP CHIP only by the edges because it is very sensitive to static electricity.

Step 14

Step 14: Put the terminal back into its holder.

Step 15

Step 15: Tighten the 7 screws holding the terminal in place.

Step 16

Step 16: Replace the terminal board’s cover.

Step 17

Step 17: Reconnect the clip holding the cooling unit.

Step 18

Step 18: Re-connect the cables between the terminal board and lamp.

Step 19

Step 19: Tighten the 2 screws holding the color wheel protective cover in it place. Avoid touching any of the optical components as this can affect the quality of your picture.

Step 20

Step 20: Carefully replace the light engine back into the cabinet.

Step 21

Step 21: Replace and tighten the 4 screws holding the lamp engine in place. Re-connect all the connectors.

Step 22

Step 22: Put the light engine back into the RPTV. Tighten both screws that keep the back bracket in place.

Step 23

Step 23: Put the back panel back onto the TV. Put the screws back into place and tighten them. Enjoy the crisp, clear picture on your Samsung HL56A650C1/FXZA.

3 Steps to a new and working BenQ MP624 projector lamp

When the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp is approaching end of life, the Lamp Indicator Light on the BenQ MP624 projector will light red. Sequential messages warning about the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001reaching end of life will also begin appearing.

Step 1: Warning Messages to replace projector lamp

Warning 1: The BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp has been in operation for 3000 hours. Install a new BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 lamp for optimal performance as soon as possible. If you have set the projector to run in Economic Mode, you can operate the projector with the current BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 lamp until the 3950 hour lamp warning screen appear.

Warning 3: The BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 1 projector lamp has been in operation for 4000 hours and is approaching the end of its life. Replace the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp immediately if you notice the brightness level have diminished even before reaching hour 4000. When you see this screen warning you must replace the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp immediately.

Final Warning: Time is up! The BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp is no longer functioning and must be replaced immediately in order for the BenQ MP624 projector to operate normally.

Step 3: Install a new BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp

Before changing the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 lamp:

Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the MP624 projector.
Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

The lamp cover is found on the top of the projector. Using a screwdriver, loosen the screw holding the BenQ MP624 lamp cover in place.
Remove the lamp cover and place it to one side.
Be careful not to touch the inside of the BenQ MP624 projector where there is a sharp edge that can cut your fingers.

Loosen the screw on the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp.

Click the wire handle up and use it to pull BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp out of the projector. Pulling too quickly can cause the bulb to shatter. Learn what to do should the bulb shatter.

Lower the new BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp first into the connector on the BenQ MP624 projector and then align the two holes on the projector.

Tighten the screw on the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp.

Re-install the BenQ MP624 lamp cover and tighten the screw.
Reset the total lamp operation timer.

Reset the projector lamp timer

It’s important to only reset the lamp timer when the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 projector lamp has been replaced. Resetting the lamp timer without changing the BenQ 5J.Y1E05.001 lamp can severely damage your BenQ MP624 projector.

Go to the Startup Logo and open the On-Screen Display menu (OSD).
Go to SYSTEM SETUP. Scroll down to ADVANCED. Press Enter.
The LAMP SETTINGS page will displays the Reset Lamp Timer screen
Highlight Reset and press ENTER.
The lamp time will be reset to ‘0’.

Do not reset if the projector lamp is not new or replaced as this could cause damage.

Tighten the screw.
Reset the total lamp operation timer.

Reset the lamp timer

Go to the Startup Logo and open the On-Screen Display menu (OSD).
Go to SYSTEM SETUP. Scroll down to ADVANCED. Press Enter.
The LAMP SETTINGS page will displays the Reset Lamp Timer screen
Highlight Reset and press ENTER.
The lamp time will be reset to ‘0’.

Do not reset if the lamp is not new or replaced as this could cause damage.

Step 1: Know when to replace

Final Warning: The BenQ CP120 projector will power down because the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp has reached end of life. Replace the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp immediately.

Step 3: Install the new BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp

Before changing the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp:

Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 projector.
Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

The lamp cover is found on the top of the projector. Gently turn over the projector, placing it on a soft surface to protect the front of the projector.
Loosen the screw holding the BenQ CP120 lamp cover in place.

Remove the BenQ CP120 lamp cover and place it to one side.

Loosen the screw on the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp. If the screw is not loosened
completely, the lamp cannot be removed. It’s highly recommended that you use a magnetic=head screwdriver so you don’t lose the screw!

Click the wire handle up and use it to pull the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp out of the projector. Pulling too quickly can cause the bulb to shatter. Learn what to do should the bulb shatter.
NOTE: The BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamps! If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps).

Lower the new BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 into the BenQ CP120 projector. Make sure the lamp has clicked into place and that the wire handle is laying flat.
Re-install the lid back onto the BenQ CP120 projector.
Tighten the screw on the lamp cover

You are now ready to reset the total lamp timer.

Reset the lamp timer

It’s important to only reset the lamp timer when the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp has been replaced. Resetting the lamp timer without changing the BenQ CS.5JJ0V.001 lamp can severely damage your BenQ CP120 projector.

Press and hold the BLANK /Up arrow button on the projector for 5 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
Press the AUTO (or AUTO/CH.) button to reset the lamp hour to “0”.
Wait about 5 seconds to let the OSD disappear.
Do not reset if the lamp is not new or replaced as this could cause damage.
