Replacing the BenQ W2000 projector lamp

When it’s time to replace the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 in the BenQ W2000 projector you will see the Lamp Indicator flashing red. Warning messages will also begin appearing on screen.

Warning messages

You’ll be given plenty of time to replace the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 projector lamp. Don’t leave replacing the lamp to the last minute or you may have a projector that will not turn on.

First warning:

The lamp has been in operation for 2000 hours. Install a new lamp for optimal performance. If the projector is normally run with Whisper selectedyou may continue to operate the projector until the 2950 hour lamp warning appears. Press ENTER to dismiss the message.

Second warning:

The lamp has been in operation for 2980 hours. You may notice lamp brightness is diminishing. It should be replaced immediately. Press ENTER to dismiss the message.

Final warning: The lamp has been in operation for 3000 hours. The lamp MUST be replaced before the projector will operate normally. Press ENTER to dismiss the message.

Install an authenticBenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp to keep your BenQ W2000 projector working properly and get the best picture quality.

You can also find BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp hour information from the main Menu:
1. Press MENU and then press arrow key until the Advanced Setup menu is highlighted.
2. Press to highlight Lamp and press ENTER. The Lamp page displays.
3. Highlight Lamp Hours and press ENTER to display the Lamp Hours information page.
4. To leave the menu, press MENU.

Finding the correct lamp

It can be confusing finding the correct BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp. There are hundreds of website selling projector lamps but most of there lamps are knock-off generic lamps that you should avoid at all costs.

Generic “compatible” lamps may appear to be a bargain–however generic knock-off lamps are actually not that great a bargain. These so-called “compatible” lamps are prone to explosion and have been created using toxic substances such as Krypton-85.

Copy-cat manufacturers simply don’t have the parts or the know-how to create a proper projector lamp and using one of these counterfeit lamp gives poor illumination, a shorter lamp life and the possibility of causing permanent damaged to the sensitive electronic components in your BenQ W2000 projector.

Replacing the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp

NOTE: These instructions also apply to the BenQ W5000 projector as well.

Before changing the lamp:

Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the BenQ W2000 projector.
Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.
The lamp cover is found on the side of the BenQ W2000 projector. Lift the projector up slightly to access the screw to the lamp cover.
Loosen the screw holding the lamp cover in place. (Use a magnetic screwdriver to make the whole process easier.)

Grab the lamp cover on the top and bottom. Gently remove it from the BenQ W2000 projector and place to one side. Don’t lose the screw!

Loosen the two screws holding the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp in place

Grab the side indentations on the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp and slowly pull it out of the projector. Never force the lamp out of the projecto; pulling too quickly can cause the bulb to shatter. Learn what to do should the bulb shatter.
Avoid touching the optical components inside the projector as this can leave marks on the lenses causing image distortion and unwanted color changes.

Re-install the BenQ W2000 lamp cover and tighten the screw.
Reset the lamp timer. (See below for instructions.)

NOTE: The BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamps! If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps).

Resetting the lamp timer

Do not reset the BenQ W2000 lamp timer if the lamp has not been replaced as this could cause damage.
1. After the startup logo, press MENU and then press arrow buttons until the Advanced Setup menu is highlighted.
2. Press to highlight Lamp and press ENTER. The Lamp page displays.
3. Highlight Reset Lamp Timer and press ENTER.

A warning message will display asking if you want to reset the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp timer. Highlight Reset and press ENTER. The lamp time will be reset to ‘0’.

Extend the life of the BenQ 5J.05Q01.001 lamp:

Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
Setting Lamp Power to Whisper mode. Using Whisper mode reduces system noise and power consumption. It also extends the lamp life. To set Whisper mode, go into the Advanced Setup > Lamp > Lamp Power menu.

White death syndrome starts off innocently enough — a few star shapped clusters on the screen that eventually cover the whole surface. This problem can be solved by installing a new Mitsubishi/Toshiba 4719-001997 DLP Chip 1910-6143W.

How to replace the 4719-001997 DLP Chip

Step 1: Put on the plastic gloves. Loosen all the screws found on the back panel.

Step 2: Put the screws to the side. Gently remove the back panel.

Step 3

Step 3: Remove the 3 screws holding the lamp engine in place.

Step 4

Step 4: Disconnect all the connectors. Important: don’t yank any cables.

Step 5: Carefully slide the light engine from the cabinet.

Step 6

Step 6: Remove the 3 screws holding the color wheel protective cover in it place. Avoid touching any of the optical components as this can affect the quality of your picture.

Step 7

Step 7: Carefully disconnect the cable between the terminal board and lamp.

Step 8: Disconnect the cables connecting the color wheel.

Step 9: Loosen the 3 screws holding the cooling unit/fan to the terminal board.

Step 13: Carefully pop the terminal out of its holder.

Step 14: Unlock the old DLP Chip from the terminal. You may need to loosen the screw on the side or use a flat edged screwdriver to pop it out.

Step 15: Place the new DLP chip into place. Handle the DMD DLP CHIP only by the edges because it is very sensitive to antistatic electricity.

Step 16

Step 16: Put the terminal back into its holder.

Step 17

Step 17: Tighten the 10 screws holding the terminal in place.

Step 18: Tighten the 2 screws on terminal board’s cover.

Step 19

Step 19: Put the fan unit back on.

3 steps to a new BenQ CP120c projector lamp

Follow our 3-step guide to a new BenQ 5J.00S01.001 projector lamp for your BenQ CP120c projector.

3 steps to a new BenQ CP120c projector lamp

Step 1: Know when to replace the lamp

When the BenQ CP120c projector is in operation, the number of hours of lamp life is automatically calculated by the built-in timer.

The formula used is Total (equivalent) lamp hour = hours used in Economic mode + hours used in normal mode. When your projector is in Econo Mode the formula is calculated as 2/3 of that in normal mode. Using the projector in Economic mode helps to extend the lamp hour by 1/3.

Warning messages

When the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp is approaching end of life the BenQ CP120c projector indicator lights up red as well as warning messages on your screen.

First Warning: The BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp has been in operation for 1800 hours. You can continue using the projector until the lamo reaches 1950 hours of usage.

Second Warning: The BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp has been in operation for 1950 hours. Replace the lamp as soon as possible.

Third warning: The BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp has been in operation for over 2000 hours. You’ll see this message for 30 seconds along with the LAMP indicator lighting up red for 40 seconds. Replace the lamp immediately.

Final warning: You’re out of time! The BenQ 5J.00S01.001 has reached end of life. The projector will shutdown in 40 seconds. The lamp MUST be replaced before the BenQ CP120c projector will turn on again.

Step 2: Buying an authentic lamp

Be sure the purchase an authentic BenQ 5J.00S01.001 projector lamp for your BenQ CP120c projector. Although generic lamps seem like a bargain, you avoid knock-off “compatible” lamps. You get what you pay for and in the case of generic lamps it’s usually a long list of problems:

Save yourself unnecessary headaches and buy authentic from a recognized dealer. You’ll be getting a far superior product with a replacement guarantee and tech support.

Step 3: Install the new BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp

Before changing the lamp:

Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the BenQ CP120c projector.
Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

The lamp cover is found on the bottom of the projector. Turn the projector over onto soft surface to protect the top of the projector. Loosen the two screws holding the BenQ CP120c lamp cover in place. (Use a magnetic screwdriver to make the whole process easier.)

Remove the lamp cover and place it to one side.

Loosen the screw on the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp. Be sure not to loose the screw as the projector will not turn on unless the lamp is properly secured into the projector. Using a magnetic-head screwdriver will ensure you don’t accidentally drop the screw into the projector!

Grab the sides on the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp and gently pull the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp out of the projector. Pulling too quickly can cause the bulb to shatter. Learn what to do should the bulb shatter.

Insert the new BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp making sure the handle is fully locked. Tighten the screw. If the screw is too loose or too tight, the projector may not turn on.

Re-install the BenQ CP120c lamp cover and tighten the screw.
Reset the total lamp operation timer.

NOTE: The BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamps! If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps).

It’s important to only reset the lamp timer when the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp has been replaced. Resetting the lamp timer without changing the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp can cause significant harm to your BenQ CP120c projector.

Press and hold up arrow button on the projector for 3 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
Press AUTO on either the projector or on the remote control. Scroll down to the LAMP HOUR TIMER. An adjustment message will appear.
Press AUTO to reset the lamp hours. Press EXIT.

Extending the life of the BenQ 5J.00S01.001 lamp:

Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
Use the Lamp Power option on the BenQ CP120c projector and set to Economic Mode to reduce the amount of power used but extend lamp life.

Step 14: Unlock the old DLP Chip from the terminal. You may need to loosen the screw on the side or use a flat edged screwdriver to pop it out.

Step 15: Place the new DLP chip into place. Handle the DMD DLP CHIP only by the edges because it is very sensitive to antistatic electricity.

Step 16: Put the terminal back into its holder.

Step 17

Step 17: Tighten the 10 screws holding the terminal in place.

Step 18: Tighten the 2 screws on terminal board’s cover.

Step 19: Put the fan unit back on.

Step 20: Tighten the 3 screws holding the cooling unit/fan to the terminal board.

Before changing the lamp:

Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the BenQ PB2240 projector.
Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 projector lamp

The lamp cover is found on the bottom of the projector. Turn the projector over onto soft surface to protect the top of the projector. Loosen the two screws holding the BenQ PB2240 lamp cover in place. (Use a magnetic screwdriver to make the whole process easier.)

Remove the lamp cover and place it to one side.

Loosen the screw on theBenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp. Be sure not to loose the screw as the projector will not turn on unless the lamp is properly secured into the projector. Using a magnetic-head screwdriver will ensure you don’t accidentally drop the secure into the projector!
Grab the sides on the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp and gently pull the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp out of the projector. Pulling too quickly can cause the bulb to shatter. Learn what to do should the bulb shatter.

Insert the new BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp making sure the handle is fully locked. Tighten the screw. If the screw is too loose or too tight, the projector may not turn on.

Re-install the BenQ PB82240 lamp cover and tighten the screw.
Reset the total lamp operation timer.

NOTE: The BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp contains mercury and should not be thrown into regular garbage. Recycle your used lamps! If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps).

Step 3: Reset the lamp counter

It’s important to only reset the lamp timer when the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp has been replaced. Resetting the lamp timer without changing the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp can cause significant harm to your BenQ PB2240 projector.

Press and hold up arrow button on the projector for 3 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
Press AUTO on either the projector or on the remote control. Scroll down to the LAMP HOUR TIMER. An adjustment message will appear.
Press AUTO to reset the lamp hours. Press EXIT.

Extending the life of the BenQ 59.J9301.CG1 lamp:

Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
Use the Lamp Power option on the BenQ PB2240 projector and set to Economic Mode to reduce the amount of power used but extend lamp life.
