Do you have an RCA (or other brand) DLP that has this lamp inside? If yes, there are a couple of things I immediately know about your TV set:

1) Your DLP set is probably less than two years old…and the lamp has failed prematurely.
2) You’re extremely upset about this…afterall, you purchased this DLP Set because you thought it would be trouble-free for 3-4 years.
3) You had no idea you were getting an inferior product. Most quality TV Manufacturer’s use Philips brand or Panasonic brand lamps. Your manufacture went with the lower prices OSRAM lamp, so you got stuck with an inferior product.
4) You wish you lamp lasted longer…or at least wished there was something you could do to make it last longer!

The Sony KDL-V32XBR1 is a high definition television set that has a screen size of 32 inches when measured diagonally and uses the LCD technology. The native display resolution of the set is 1366 by 768, which is enough to display all input signals at 720p. However, it can accept all input signals upto 1080i. In such cases, the input images are scaled to fit the available pixel area. The swivel base made it quite easy to operate and watch from wherever you are sitting.

Excellent colors which are very rich and vivid was one of the strong points of the Sony KDL-V32XBR1. Surprisingly the set fared a lot better when showing standard definition content than high definition content. The set lacked quite a bit in the details especially while watching high definition content or DVD’s. The audio quality was excellent and held its own during all the tests. The SRS TruSurround features gives very high quality sound with high effects and surround sound capabilities. The Sony KDL-40V2500 is a high definition television, which uses the LCD technology and has a screen size of 40 inches when measured diagonally. The design of the set is extremely sleek and will surely add to your room’s décor with its elegant styling. The cabinet is predominantly silver in color and has a very thin bezel, which is black. The use of these dual colors gives the cabinet a contrasting look that is quite appealing. A stand has also been included with the set and is colored to match the set (silver).

The Sony KDL-40V2500 has a high contrast ratio of 1300:1. The set offers a full display resolution of 1920 by 1080 also called as 1080p and is the highest available resolution available today. The Panasonic TH-42PV700U is a high definition television that uses the plasma technology and has a screen size of 42 inches when measured diagonally. The cabinet is very well design and looks very elegant inspite of the wide bezel. The all black cabinet has been kept very clean with input and controls being hidden. Most of the input interfaces are located at the back while some of them have been provided at the sides for easy access.

The full display resolution of the Panasonic TH-42PV700U is 1920 by 1080 also called as the 1080p, which is the highest native display resolution available today. It is one of the very few plasmas having a display resolution of 1080p to beat most of the other sets in picture quality. The quality of the images was clinical especially while viewing high definition content or disc-based content. The standard definition content was not all that impressive mainly because the colors were a bit less vibrant.

Panasonic as usual has packed the set with plenty of input interfaces to which you can hookup your external devices. The sheer number of inputs ensures that a few inputs will still be left empty even after connecting all the devices. The menu system is a little hard to use. Overall the Panasonic TH-42PV700U does lack when it comes to features but is a sure buy if your focus is on picture quality.

The Samsung HP-S5053 is a high definition television set that uses the plasma technology and has a 50-inch screen size when measured diagonally. The cabinet, simply put, looks huge not just because of the screen size but also because of the very thin bezel. The shiny black cabinet with the blue-lit power button ensure that it will attract a lot of attention even when it is not turned on.

The full display resolution of the Samsung HP-S5053 is 1366 by 768, which is slightly more than 720p. Although it can display all input signals at 720p, it can accept input signals only upto 1080i. All the input signals are scaled to fit the native display resolution. Even when the set is turned on, it does more than enough to cast a spell on the viewer. The performance and the image quality are quite above par even though I will refrain from calling it the best. The set really excelled by showing vibrant colors, realistic skin tones and high contrast ratios.

The set offers plenty of inputs with most of them located on the back while a few have been placed at the side for easy access. The remote is quite handy but it does miss the CableCard slot. The Samsung HP-S5053 offers excellent images and plenty of features even though it cost is a slightly higher in comparison. However it would be safe to say that you will be paying fort he quality that you get.

The Samsung HL-S5688W is a rear projection television, which has a 56-inch screen size when measured diagonally and uses the DLP technology. The DLP technology has had plenty of criticism from the press especially considering that it is still developing. The non-accurate, oversaturated colors and dreadful black levels have been assaulted the most by many of the reviewers. Samsung does seem to have taken notice and have come up with a fantastic response in the form of this set.

The Samsung HL-S5688W offers excellent performance and nearly all the points of criticism have been taken care of. The full display resolution of the set is 1920 by 1080, which is also known as 1080p. The depth of the set is barely more than 16 inches, which is quite commendable for a DLP TV. It uses a 5-segment color wheel to give excellent colors. Out of the box the colors are far too oversaturated.

The cabinet is very sleek and yet very simple with a very thin frame around the screen. The set has plenty of features to keep you occupied for quite a while. It has an input for digital cable and a CableCard slot, which is quite useful for watching cable TV. The USB jack enables the user to view photographs or videos or listen to MP3 audio directly from the USB device. A PC input is also provided although the resolutions are not that flattering.

The picture especially in the movie mode puts the Samsung HL-S5688W in contention for the best RPTV.

The Samsung HL-S5686W is a rear projection television, which uses the DLP technology and has a 56” screen size when measured diagonally. The latest range of the DLP televisions is offering picture qualities, which are comparable to that of the plasmas with greater screen sizes and yet are much cheaper. The above factors make the DLP a much better option in case hanging the television on the wall is not a priority.

The full display resolution of the Samsung HL-S5686W is 1280 by 720, which means that all the input signals will be displayed at 720p. The native resolution may be less than what may be wanted but at a screen size of 56 inches, even having 1080p may not have much of a difference. The set has very accurate colors although it does seem to struggle with the detail levels especially in the distance. The compactness of the set makes it fit into smaller spaces where other sets will not fit. The black levels are quite low and the built in digital tuner is excellent.

A RGB input has also been provided in case you want to hook up the PC. Unlike the plasmas the DLP’s do not suffer from static Image burn in problems and hence are safe to use with the PC’s. The Samsung HL-S5686W is equipped with both analog (NTSC) as well as digital (ATSC) tuners. It also supports analog cable TV.

Samsung LN-T4061 40 inch LCD TV

The Samsung LN-T4061 is a LCD television and has a 40 inch screen size when measured diagonally. Except for the panel of this LCD the rest of the set including the design is quite similar to that of most of the plasmas. The cabinet looks fantastic with its relatively simple all black design. Most of the inputs are located on the backside with some of them provided on the sides for easy access. The depth of the set is a bit less than 12 inches and weighs just over 46 pounds which is quality commendable.

The set offers a full display resolution of 1920 by 1080, which is also known as 1080p. It is the highest possible display resolution available today. The Samsung LN-T4061 gives a fantastic performance when it comes to displaying high definition content. However, it would be fair to say that it struggles when it comes to standard definition content. The set is equipped with a standard remote, which thankfully is backlit. The CableCard slot is one of the few things that are missing.

The Samsung LN-T4061 is a very good option if you are sure to be viewing high definition content. It offers wide viewing angles with rated contrast ratios, which can be measured upto 10000:1. VGA and USB inputs have also been included to connect PC or digital devices respectively.

The Samsung LN-R328W is a high definition television set that uses the LCD technology and has a screen size of 32 inches. The cabinet has been kept fairly simple and modest. The thin bezel around the screen is fully black in color with a trademark silver ‘V’ shaped area at the bottom of the screen. The stand too is silver in color to match the set and misses the swivel. The set though is just 39 pounds in weight and will not be much of a problem to move.

The full display resolution offered by the set is 1366 by 768, which is more than enough to display all incoming signals at 720p. All the input signals are scaled to fit the available pixel area. As far as the image quality is concerned the set was the winner or one of the winner while displaying any content. The colors were rich and vivid and more accurate than any other set, which were used for comparison.

Even the features of the set confirm that the set is modest with not many frills. It does not have the CableCard slot and has a single analog tuner, which means that you will have to go in for additional set top boxes. Even though the unit is basic for a comparatively higher price, it is not totally off the hook to buy it only for the image quality.

The Samsung HP-S4253 is a high definition television, has a 42-inch screen size when measured diagonally, and uses the plasma technology to deliver a stunning picture. The shiny black finishing of the set gives it a classy look although it is a bit too reflective. The use of the plasma technology prevents several hazards like the screen burn in which are prevalent in other technologies.

The performance of the set especially while viewing DVD content was exceptional. The picture delivered by the set is very bright with highly accurate colors. It also gave excellent outputs with high definition content. The set surprisingly fares better in darker scenes than in the brighter ones. However if you are planning to view a lot of standard definition content, the Samsung HP-S4253 may not be your best bet. The images in standard definition looked pixilated and the skin tones had a higher level of greens.

The set offers plenty of input options and you may be left with plenty of them empty even after hooking up all your devices. However, the CableCard slot is missing and may be the cause of some discomfort for a few users. The antiglare screen works very well and makes the viewing experience a lot comfortable. The depth of the set is less than 4 inches, which should attract quite a lot of attention from potential buyers.
