The Sony KDF-42WE655 is a 42 inch television with a slim tabletop cabinet and uses the LCD technology. The silver colored cabinet has been fantastically designed and has been made very compact so as to fit on the counter top or table. The dimensions of the set are 41 ½ inches in width, 32 ¼ inches in height and 14 ½ inches in depth which is quite commendable. The weight of the set is just a tad below 72 pounds and is quite astonishing considering its size.

The three WXGA chips display a total 3.28 million pixels of resolution. Per numerous members, it looks like this method works quite well:

Hold the Vol down button on the TV and the Split button on the REMOTE for five seconds, -or- Press the Volume button on the TV while pressing hte SPLIT button on the Remote Control for five seconds
It will NOT work if you try to do it both from your remote

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Be cautious of replacement “lamps” or “bulbs” for the TY-LA1000 sold without the enclosure housing. Typically, buying the lamp-only is okay, as long as the customer is purchasing an original lamp. Always stay away from off-brand bulbs manufactured by OSRAM, LTI, APO, or another third-party provider for your Panasonic TY-LA1000. When purchasing just the lamp itself (even an original), it can be a hassle unless you’re fairly good with a technician’s soldering iron.

Your original enclosure has the lamp cable connectors soldered from it’s terminals to the connector plug. When purchasing just the lamp alone, you will have to cut this connector and soldering it on your new lamp. Sounds confusing or difficult? It is… and until we make a kit for it, I don’t suggest anyone purchase the bare bulb only!

The Hitachi 50VX915 is a rear projection high definition television and uses the LCD technology. It has a 50 inch screen size and is from Hitachi’s Directors Series. The thin and compact black cabinet of the set looks very stylish with the glossy finish. The input controls like the volume and the channel buttons are located at the side of the cabinet which gives the front of the cabinet a clean look. This keeps the controls out of sight yet very easily accessible.The wide screen format of the set has been designed to reducing the glare and reflections. Performance wise the Hitachi 50VX915 offers excellent picture with high level of details and high contrast. The black levels of the set too are quite commendable. The Hitachi 50V720 is a rear projection television that uses LCD technology and has a 50 inch screen size. The cabinet has been aesthetically designed with the use of a dual toned silver and black cabinet. The Sony KDS-70CQ006 is a high definition TV having a 70 inch widescreen (measured diagonally) and is from Sony’s Qualia series. It uses the LCOS technology which is also referred to by Sony as SXRD. Sony has packed in plenty of features into the set which helps the set deliver excellent performance which may even be referred to as the best for a high definition television. The Sony KDF-55E2000 is a 55 inch high definition television set using LCD technology. This set is an excellent option if you want a really big screen TV without spending a large amount of money on a flat panel set. The native resolution of the set is 1280 X 720 which means that all incoming signals will be scaled to fit the available pixel area. Having a display resolution of 720p the Sony KDF-55E2000 is a relatively cheaper option compared to the really high priced projection TV’s.

The design of the set too is quite commendable. The twin speaker system of the set is almost hidden under the screen and has helped the manufacturers shave off quite a few vital inches of the width. The set is equipped with a CableCard slot which helps the user to connect cable TV without the need of going in for separate set top boxes. The JVC HD-61Z886 is a high definition television which uses the JVC’s D-ILA technology and has a 61 inch widescreen when measured diagonally. The cabinet has been elegantly designed using a two color tone structure. The border around the widescreen is dark gray and a silver strip at the bottom of the screen is used to house the speakers. This positioning of the speakers at the bottom instead of the sides of the cabinet enables the manufacturers to decrease the width of the set by quite a few inches.

The designing of the set is albeit simple and clean. The control buttons and a few other inputs are located at the side of the cabinet which keeps them out of view but still easily accessible. The dimensions of the JVC HD-61Z886 is 57 ½ inches in width, 41 inches in height and 18 ½ inches in depth. The set tips the scales at 103 pounds which is quite reasonable considering the screen size.

The use of D-ILA technology helps the set deliver crisp images with high level of detail. The native resolution of the JVC HD-61Z886 is 1280 X 720 which is also called as 720p. This resolution will convert all incoming to 720p which is the maximum possible resolution. JVC LT-32X787 32” LCD HDTV

The JVC LT-32X787 is a 32” (measured diagonally) high definition television using the LCD technology. The size of the set is one of the most popular sizes among all classes and this may well be due to the fact that most people want to replace their CRT TV’s which are around 27”. The set is priced at around $1200 which makes it sit at the midlevel for its range of sizes. JVC has done well to break the pattern of making the cabinets all black. The silver and black cabinet has been modestly styled. The cabinet is predominantly silver with the black part used around the screen.

The dimensions of the set are 31.5 inches in width, 23.3 inches in height and 10.6 inches in depth and it tips the scales at 38.3 pounds including the stand. The huge JVC remote (almost a trademark) will not really earn too many accolades and packs too many buttons with similar functions in a haphazard manner. The extra (second) HDMI interface is certainly a huge asset which most people will be willing to pay more for.

The maximum display resolution offered by the JVC LT-32X787 is 1366 X 768 which is more than enough to show all the details at 720p. All the other input sources are scaled to fit the available pixels. It can be easily noticed the set showed the 720p resolution sources better and sharper than the sets having 1080i resolution. The overall performance of the JVC LT-32X787 was superb as it offered accurate colors for an LCD although the blacks were a little light.

Hitachi 65F59 65-Inch CRT Projection HDTV

Even with new technologies like the plasma, the LCD and the DLP taking the markets by storm and occupying most of the market share some of the manufacturers are still offering large screen CRT projection sets with better performance at much more sensible prices. Although the size of the cabinet does have most people shying away from them some of the sets really have much superior performance to the sets using other technologies. Style and elegance may be one of the factors at which the CRT may be caught lacking.

The dimensions of the set are 61 inches in width, almost 60 inches in height and 25 3/8 inches in depth. The depth, even though quite high, is not much larger than some of the rear projection televisions of the same size. The depth though will be beaten silly if you dare compare it to the LCD’s. With this in mind I will make it a point to keep the comparisons restricted to the CRT’s. The weight of the set is just a bit less than 260 which is quite reasonable for a CRT television having a screen size of 65 inches. The Hitachi 65F59 has an integrated ATSC tuner which enables it to process all incoming signals upto 1080i.

Overall the set offers excellent performance providing excellent black levels and accurate colors which are the specialties of the CRT without the problems faced by the use of the newer technologies. The pricing of the CRT sets makes it a good value for money.

Hitachi 55VS69 55-Inch LCD Projection HDTV

The Hitachi 55VS69 is a high definition television using the LCD technology and has a screen size of 55 inches when measured diagonally. With the use of the LCD technology Hitachi has managed to keep the set very compact and lightweight inspite of its huge size. The dimensions of the set are 50 ¾ inches in width, 34 ¼ inches in height and 18 inches in depth. The weight of the set is a measly 86 pounds which is quite commendable considering the size.

The Hitachi 55VS69 has been well designed not just in terms of the compactness but also with respect to the design and styling. The front of the cabinet has been kept clean and tidy with the channel and volume buttons located at the side with other inputs and outputs on the backside. The placement of the speakers inside the cabinet at the bottom of the screen has allowed the manufacturers reduce the width of the set by a precious few inches.

The set is cable TV ready with the inclusion of a CableCard slot which eliminates the need and the hassles to go for separate set top boxes. The native resolution of the set is 1280 X 720 which is sufficient for any input sources at 720p. As far as the performance is concerned the Hitachi 55VS69 is quite good (even though not the best) and is certainly worth a look if you are looking for a large screen size without wasting too much space.
