Make your Powerpoint presentation pop with these tips.

Presenting your ideas in front of a group of people can be a daunting task. It ranks high up on the scale of things people are afraid of doing. Being well prepared will help calm your nerves and let you get your ideas across in the best way possible. These presentation tips will help you stand out from the crowd.

Presenting is hard work

Almost all experts agree on one thing: Know your stuff inside out. Nothing ruins a presentation more than having a fumbler up in front who doesn’t know their material. Take the time to research, organize and prepare.

  • Structure your material so it has a logical flow. Put categories together, do a chronological display, show how the interconnections are happening.
  • Divide up the entire presentation into key points. Having between three to five points will help your audience remember the key issues being discussed.
  • A strong conclusion is paramount to having your audience leave with a full understanding of your presentation but it will also help them to remember.
  • Leave enough time for a Q and A session. This engages the audience and they are more likely to remember.
  • Provide contact information at the end of the presentation for any other questions that surface after the audience has had time to digest the presentation.
  • Don’t be afraid the pause the presentation to clear up any confusion or questions from the audience. Press either the W or B key to stop and then the Enter key to resume.

Making a great impression

Use some of the principles of public speaking to help you come across as a polished and professional who is in control of their topic.

  • Practical examples and case study anecdotes are a great way to make your concepts clear and accessible by your audience members.
  • Slow down! Everyone has a tendency to speed talk when they are nervous. Deliver your presentation slowly and clearly.
  • Avoid talking in a monotone, as this will lull people to sleep. Emphasize certain ideas and words to give your voice some life.
  • Speak up! You want the people at the back to be able to hear you but you don’t want to be shouting. Clear, concise and engaging.
  • Make sure your gestures are natural and fit in with your topic. Leave your arm by your side or rest them on the podium to keep gestures to a minimum.
  • Maintain eye contact but don’t stare the your audience. Move between the screen and the audience.
  • Have reminders notes so you know what slide is coming next and can be ready to discuss its relevant points.
  • Dress comfortably.

Design

  • Less text is always better.
  • Follow the 10/20/30 Kawasaki rule.
  • A table of contents can be a perfect introduction and peak audience interest.
  • Best size for titles is 44 with a Sans Serif font that is easy to read. Avoid the fancier fonts, as they can be difficult to decipher.
  • Each slide should have your company brand to reinforce your brand.
  • Arrange slides in a chronological order with topics placed accordingly.
  • Don’t bombard the audience with too many stats and numbers. You want them to remember what you are presenting. Round numbers up.
  • Make sure each slide has a title.
  • Visual pie charts or bar graphs will make more impact rather than just numbers.

Samsung_Chrome_connecting_ProjectorsThe Samsung Chromebook is an easy connect to any projector

Reasonably priced, this laptop weighs under 2.5lbs and is less than 0.8 inches thick. Chromebook comes connected to all the Google products needed for presentations and lets you load your documents to the Google cloud.

Its fast boot technology gives your automatic updates and built-in security. It’s the perfect companion for traveling with your projector.

With no set-up and 7 hours of battery life, the Samsung Chromebook can go anywhere you go. It’s built to stay cool, so it doesn’t need a fan and runs silently with no moving parts.

Easy connections

Samsung_Chrome_Projector_HDMI_connectionsThe new Samsung Chromebook is a pro at connecting up to your projector. For ease of use the HDMI Video out port, USB2 port, USB 3 port, and the power port are located at the back.

This means no computer cables poking out at the side to get in your way during your presentation. Even if your projector is an older model without a HDMI connection, the Chromebook can handle the VGA/DVI cable converters.

Start projecting

The Chromebook is quick and easy to get set up:

  • Check that your projector has as HDMI connection. If it doesn’t you’ll need a VGA to HDMI converter.
  • Connect the HDMI cable to the back of your Chromebook and the other end into the projector. If you’re projector is not HDMI compatible, connect the VGA converter into the HDMI cable into the adaptor and then connect that into the projector.
  • Turn on the projector and Chromebook. You’ll notice both the Chromebook screen changes and the projector will have the same screen shot.

Basic ways of controlling the image:

Samsung_Chromebook_changing_screen_size

Option 1: Using the Chromebook menu, you can extend the screen, which turns the Chromebook desktop into a second monitor. This gives you the ability to drag screens onto the Chromebook desktop without displaying them on the main screen. In order to display them on the projector screen, you have to move them off the Chromebook monitor onto the projector monitor. This can get confusing.

Samsung_Chrome_Projector_mirroringOption 2: The easiest way to control your screen image is with mirror image. Click Control and Mirror button (above the F5 key on the keyboard). This displays whatever is on your Chromebook desktop onto the screen.

Once you have chosen your screen option open your document and let the presentation begin!

Sony_4k_Ultra_short_projector4K Ultra HD is the newest technology that has everyone buzzing. What’s is it all about?

People have been talking about 4K Ultra HD since it stole the show at the Las Vega 2014 CES show. That’s a tough crowd to please.

While this technology is far from being mainstream, it is the future of watching entertainment and we are going to start seeing 4K projectors start hitting the market this year.

Super resolution

Why is everyone so excited about 4k Ultra HD? It’s simply the most amazing resolution out there. Your current 1080 DLP projector offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. HD has four times the resolution at 3,840 x 2,160. Well Ultra HD gives you cinema quality resolution at 4,096 x 2,160) and eventually to 8K (7,680x 4,320). All those extra pixels mean a picture with ultra definitions, colors that astonish, lifelike textures and more nuance details. The image is going to pop on screen.

While there are some 4K TVs on the market, the major manufacturers are just starting to get on board. Sharp, Toshiba, Sony and some of the smaller Chinese manufacturers have already released their latest models. As consumers jump on the bandwagon, you can expect the prices for 4k TVs to drop even further.

Perfect marriage

4k Ultra HD and projectors are the perfect combination.  You need a larger screen of 60 inches or more with a cinema-style set-up in order to gain the full benefits. Smaller screens or TV located more than 10 feet away will not benefit from this technology. You just won’t see anything.

The good news for those who already own a HDTV is you can stream the current 4K choices right now. Your HDMI cables can pass 4K so there is no need to upgrade your cables or anything else.

Sony is leading the pack with 4K projectors. It unveiled its 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector and the results were amazing. It has an even smoother display with more saturated color and lifelike images than any other HD projector

Simply place this projector near a wall and an enormous 147-inch image appears. No installation is needed with this ultimate short throw projector. With the image projected onto the wall, no one can walk in front of the image and there’s no need to ceiling mount this projector. This means it takes up less room. Its 4K technology means there is no pixelation that is sometimes associated with HD viewing. The 1.6x power zoom makes the projector able to change to a size that suits your wall space. You can sit closer and enjoy a larger image.

Sounds amazing doesn’t it? Before you run out to purchase one be prepared for sticker shock. The Sony 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector starts at $30K. It does come loaded with 10 4K movies.

House_of_cards_4K_UltraHDNot enough content

The biggest challenge with 4K Ultra HD is with content. This technology is so new that there just hasn’t been enough shows or films produced in the new format. YouTube has some 4K videos but the largest supplier right now is Netflix. House of Cards, Season 2 premiered in 4K and you can get all five seasons of Breaking Bad in 4K. More shows are being added daily.

As the technology evolves, we will see more choices in 4K Ultra HD projectors and TVs. There is also going to be more to watch. Prices will start to drop and soon enough 4K will become the industry standard.
