WD 73727- Lamp or Light Engine?

I have a WD 73727, and was told that it has a bad light engine. Upon my own investigation, I blew the dust out of it, and pulled the lamp out, and put it back in. I am now getting a code that the lamp is bad. Would I get the Lamp code if it is in fact the Light Engine?

Thanks in advance for any response.

Hello,
if a tech checked your tv it could be one of 2 8-)
-either he thinks it is the DMD and it is malfunctioning in a way it gives you the lamp error code :(
-or its just a lamp issue and he wanted to plant a heavy sale

any symptoms you can describe? the sure fire way to know would be to invest in a new lamp if it has been around a year since your last change and see if it fixes it!

Thanks for the response. That is what I am thinking. Eat the cost of a new lamp to find out, if it doesn't fix it, I can always re-sell the lamp. You hit on what I was really trying to determine, and that is could it be the light engine malfunctioning in such a way to give me a bad lamp code?

I do not remember what it was doing initially, just that it was not the bad lamp code.

yeah I would bite the bullet on a lamp and if it fixes it perfect! if not then at least its not the cost of a lightengine/DMD board ($300!!!).

glad to help!
