Strange noises from my Samsung DLP

I want to start off by saying I replaced my lamp a few months ago and my picture looks great. Its the audio Im having problems with. About an hour after being on you can hear loud pops from the speakers and eventually the audio from the TV sounds like its being played through a voice changer. Its very annoying and happens every time the Tv is on. If I turn the TV off for a few minutes it will fix the problem but about 10 minutes later it happens again. The longer I leave the TV off the longer it takes for the wierd sounds to happen. Any help or advice on how to fix this myself would be great.

Hello!

I think a board is heating up too much... since this happens after a while and cooling it down seems to fix it temporarily until it heats up again. :shock:
This can be something simple (I would try this first) like the input board. ;)
or a DMD board in which case the complete light engine needs to be swapped out. :(

Any idea where I could find an input board? How hard are they to replace?

As a seasoned tech, I can tell you I am sure you can replace it, it is located obviously on the back shell of the TV and has nothing but screws and plugs, nothing to cut or solder!
just make sure you open up the TV and get a part number aside from the TV model number because some parts change!

I buy from www.discount-merchant.com because I am registered as a tech with them, but they sell to the general public, give them a call if you cannot find it on their site, they are very helpful!

As a tech, have you ever heard of this problem? Its really annoying having to unplug my tv every 30 min. And do you think a new input board will do the trick?

Ok I tried your link and when I put in my TV model # the only input boards they sell for my TV is the regular red white and yellow with the one USB hookup that goes on the side of the TV. Im not even using that input. My inputs are from my HDMI. I only have 2 hdmi inputs and the noises happen on both of them. My model # is HLS5086WX/XAA

HMM go by the pictures DM has great pictures of what you're actually ordering!, as long as the part number led you to the part and the picture looks the same, has the same inputs / some boards have the same PN but different inputs :shock:

So what youre saying is I need to replace the board where the HDMI hookups are correct? If so I cant find a replacement anywhere.

Ok i found the board. Its a hundred bucks to replace. I wonder if there is a cheaper fix????

What is the part number? I think I can find it cheaper, I am 75% sure this is what is malfunctioning...

I could only see a reference number and this is whats listed on DM.com.

if you take your outs and cross refference the numbers they have to match (the P/N at least)

Hey Grayfox. I wanted to know for sure if it was the input board that was the problem so I connecting the tv through the side inputs which are a completely different input board entirely seperate from the HDMI inputs. And still the same problem occurs. Do you have any other idea what this could be or should I just get a new TV?

ok so after some brainstorming I still think its the input board because of the noise, (you might wanna order some TV speakers from DM just in case while you are at it!). But what I would do next is open up the back shelf in a relatively static free environment (say not the carpet)! and see if that aux input board goes to the main input board.. get where I'm headed with this? ;)
