Fix Your DLP Wizard

The television turns on, but there is distorted picture or pixilation.

The picture has black or fading bars.

The most common cause for black or fading bars is a collapsed light tunnel. The light (coming from the lamp) is sent through a small device lined with mirrors. The mirrors are glued onto the sides of the device. Should the mirrors fall, or slowly collapse into itself, you'll see a black or faded black bar on your screen. Sometimes this bar may even be "migrating" slowly or growing!

If your picture has black or fading bars, it is definitely not the lamp. The lamp only acts as a light source. The light is then processed and reflected through a series of other components and mirrors which may be causing this issue.

If you have an even shaped "dark spot" around the center, while the center remains bright, you may have the wrong lamp. Please check to see that you have an LCD or DLP television and click here.
