Fix Your DLP Wizard

There are false color or dark spots on my LCD projection television set.

Only one thing can cause a LCD television to have false color:

  • Defective Light Engine

If there is a blob on the screen, either blue or green or red, this is caused by the television's light engine. A lamp cannot cause changes in color because it only emits bright white light. There is no easy fix for a defective light engine and repairs can run pretty high. We recommend contacting the manufacturer for these issues.

If your screen is dark around the edges, but bright in the center, however, this may be due to the fact that you have the wrong lamp. LCD projection televisions usually use a parabolic lamp instead of an elliptical lamp because of a need for a more focused light source. To be sure of which lamp you need, you should call Discount-Merchant.com at (800) 281-8860. Have your part number ready as well as a description of the lamp you currently have.

If your TV has dark spots around only a single edge or in the center, this is a different problem most commonly linked with DLP television sets.

Known television makes with this issue are Sony and Hitachi.

Philips UHP lamps only fail about .03% of the time out of the factory. That's 3 in 10,000! If you've already purchased a lamp, give us a call and we'll do our best to help you.
